I have personally had both American and English Labradors and there is a distinct difference in their look and temperament. At the end of the day they are both Labs at heart. The clear difference I see is that the English Labrador has a more presentable and consistent build and there temperament is very relaxed and suitable for companionship. The American style Labrador and English working Labradors are bred with the intent of using them for trials and hunting. This is why they have a working dog demeanor and are not intended to solely be companion dogs. They are also bred for sport and are built more slender and agile looking.
